View from the street and from the sidewalk
The beautiful Victorian home is almost completely invisible from the street! Well planted fir trees, a bronze maple, and 8 arborvitaes create a privacy screen from the street. A 20+ ft. parking strip is partially xerixerscaped with lava rock in an artistic scroll design of red and black lava rock. Several well-placed bushes, black-eyed susans, and rocks bring vertical and visual interest to the area. The maple tree is adorned with perennial day lilies and lantana flowers.
All outside trees, bushes, and grass are fed by a perfectly functioning sprinkler system on a timer.
The property is also host to a small but very productive orchard that will supply you with fresh fruit daily from spring through fall! Apple, plum, apricot, mulberry, and cherry trees grow in front and back, and grape vines produce delicious purple seedless grapes well worth cultivating!
Entering from the front door
The entrances to the living room and dining room offer a Victorian-style ornate arch design, and the walls are plaster-lathe, offering warmth, insulation, and a solid feel rarely found in modern homes.
Living Room (13' x 17')
With lofty ten foot ceilings, extra tall windows, and embedded light fixtures in the ceiling, the living room is warm, comfortable, and filled with light. The fireplace has a Victorian cover that brings added charm to the room. The living room, dining room, and bedrooms have oak hardwood floors in excellent condition.
Dining Room (14' x 12')
The dining room is very large and open, with extra tall oak-framed bay windows bringing in plenty of light. Enter through the living room's arched entrance, or through the kitchen.
Kitchen (14' x 11')
The kitchen is open and very light, with two fully functioning double-pane doors going out to the back porch and garden, and a double-hung, double-pane window over the counter. The counters, including the island, are all constructed of wood chopping block, protected by layers of tung oil, which is very easy to care for and brings as much sheen to the counters as you desire. The cabinets are custom cherry hardwood, making the kitchen warm and inviting and easy to accommodate a party of friends.
The gas Wolf oven and stovetop are a dream to use! It vents to outside the home, and offers lighting above the stovetop and inside the oven.
Granite floors, overhead lighting and below counter lighting, and a hanging pot/pan rack bring an updated feel to the kitchen.
Bedrooms
The three bedrooms feel larger than their size might indicate, due to the high ceilings and large windows. The back bedroom has two sets of double-hung windows overlooking the back porch and garden, while the front bedroom has a picture window overlooking the apple tree and front garden, along with a tall double-hung window. The middle bedroom has a tall double-hung window and offers a walk-in closet.
Two out of the three bedrooms have overhead fans that are whisper quiet, and they are practically all that I use in the summer time. Due to the mature trees that cover the property, the home stays very cool and comfortable in the summer. Due to exceptional insulation and thick walls, the home stays comfortably warm all winter.
Back Bedroom (12' x 12.5')
Middle Bedroom (with walk-in closet) (9' x 12')
Front bedroom (12' x 12')
Bathroom
The bathroom has beautiful gray granite flooring, and an original brick wall is exposed on the north side to bring in an old-world feel. The claw foot tub is roomy and enjoys plenty of light due to the large double-hung, double-pane window.

Back porch and garden
The back porch and garden are my "secret garden." Completely hidden from neighbors, and shaded with grape vines and ivy, the effect is peace, tranquility, and a peace like you might find in rural Utah while living in the midst of the bustling 9th and 9th neighborhood.
There is a productive raised bed in the back garden, and a detached single-car garage is accessed through the back alley.
I often sit outside in the summer and play harp, which you can hear by clicking on the video below this slideshow of photos. Enjoy!
The neighborhood
This home is a very short walking distance to Roland Hall High School, Liberty Park, Trolley Square, and the famous 9th and 9th Business District. It is within easy biking distance to Sugarhouse, Downtown Salt Lake City, and the University of Utah.
Hip and funky, foodie and recreational, 9th and 9th has some of the best restaurants and outdoor art in the city. The 9th & 9th Business District, located within less than a block at the intersection of 9th East and 9th South, is a collection of unique, eclectic, and family friendly businesses. These include a fabulous Lebanese restaurant, Thai and Mexican eateries, a Celtic gift store, and a veterinary hospital, among others. Home to boutique shops, farm to table cuisine, great treats, movies, and more, 9th and 9th is the heart of "hip." The Tower Theatre is host to Utah's annual Sundance Film Festival, and Coffee Garden is a gathering place at all times of day and night. The neighborhood is leafy and shade dappled with a collection of funky residences surrounding the district center and this makes the atmosphere friendly and social, which encourages visitors to interact with one another and their environment.
